
Rev. Philip R. Cousin, Jr. is the firstborn son of Bishop and Mrs. Philip R. Cousin, the Episcopal leadership team of the Fourth Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. All of his brothers are Itinerant Elders in the A.M.E. Church. His brother Steven is the Presiding Elder of the Kansas City District of the Kansas/Nebraska Annual Conference; David is the pastor of Bridge Street A.M.E. Church, Brooklyn, New York; Michael is the pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Detroit, Michigan; and Joseph is the pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Rev. Cousin is married to the former Angela McMillan,
daughter of the late Rev. H. Calvin McMillan and Mrs. Ann McMillan.
Angela’s father, Rev. McMillan served with distinction as a Pastor and
Presiding Elder in the 5th and the 3rd Episcopal Districts. Her maternal
grandfather and great-grandfather were also pastors in the A.M.E.
Church. A registered nurse, Angela comes from a rich African Methodist
heritage, and will bring experience and innovation as an Episcopal
Supervisor. Philip and Angela are the parents of five children:
Philip III (24); Danielle (22); Daniel
(21); Carlos (17); and Joshua (8).
On the third Sunday in June, 2005, Reverend Cousin began his 13th consecutive appointment as pastor of St. Joseph-Durham, giving him the second longest tenure of any pastor in the church's recorded history.
